What are passthrough fees?

Passthrough fees are additional costs charged by court systems, DMVs, official databases, and other third-party data providers, during the background check process. These fees are not set by Western Verify and are passed on to you as incurred. They may include surcharges for accessing court records, DMV data, or other specialized verifications, varying by jurisdiction and search type.

All DMVs charge a fee to access driving records, but not all state or county courts do. During order placement, our system displays these fees before you finalize the order so that you are not caught by surprise.

What are aliases?

An alias is any name a person uses or has used beyond their legal name, including legally changed names, nicknames, shortened names, or names resulting from data entry errors.

Incorporating aliases into a background check ensures a thorough and accurate search, as candidates may have records (such as criminal, employment, or education history) listed under these alternate names. Western Verify’s background check packages include searches using both a candidate’s legal name and their aliases, delivering comprehensive results that enhance compliance and reduce oversight risks.
